Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2014

Tasted on August 08th, 2021, bottle opened at 4.30pm.

Colour was deep ruby and almost purple, it was very musky on the nose, perfumed, fruits was so powerful that it was almost jammy.

On the palate, acidity was high with profound tannins, red fruit characters and not much terroir yet, so let’s decant it.

An hour later..

Terroir, terroir in a glass? Menthol, licorice, herbs, raspberry, red currant, vanilla. For a moment, the Mouton had me confused with warm climate Pinot. Palate still had more fruits than terrior, maybe another hour or two decanting.

Another hour and half later..

Palate evolved to release more herbaceous flavours, balancing the heavy fruits with cigar leaves, cedar wood, therefore, developed more complexity. However, it was a rather disappointing Mouton.
