Tasting | Eric Rodez Grandes Vintages

Éric Rodez, along with his wife Martine, are the 8th generation of a family of Champagne makers, with origins dating back from 1757. The Rodez couple have established a 6.12 hectares domaine located in Ambonnay – and Éric himself was the Mayor of the city from 2008 to 2014 !

Subdivided in 35 different parcels with 62% of Pinot Noirand 38% of Chardonnay, planted in fairly high altitudes (130 meters), this is an ideal set up to grow outstanding Pinot Noir. After a long time working for Champagne Krug as an oenolgist, Éric undoubtably acquired an experience and outstanding know-how in blending.

The 9th generation of the Rodez family – Mickaël and Aurélie have recently joined the estate, learning from their parents about this strong heritage.True authors in Champagne. - Introduction by Tristain at Winetastic HK

Èric Rodez - Grower or Trendsetter?

In the rapidly changing business of champagne, would you follow the Grandes Marques or follow your nose to the phenomenal producers who are shaking the world of champagne?

Èric Rodez Champagne Ambonnay Grandes Vintages

The champagne to me is generational and exceptional, it is comprised of their best vintages from 2015, 2016, 2017 plus reserve wine.

Hailed from Ambonnay Grand Cru with 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, partial MLD and oak fermentation curated a wine of nuances and complexity.

The Liquid Gold
The Liquid Gold

The colour is golden with a hint of pink hue, while the nose is gamey with farmyard, it also reminds me of the lemon meringue mille feuille.

The palates is superb, it is soooo round and buttery, vanilla cream teasting the taste buds, then there is also chocolate, orange peel, fresh lemon and toasted hazelnuts.

It is definitely a champagne that I would savour on its own, or pair with some oscietra caviar.

Like I said to Tristian, 'Thank you for introducing me to this gorgeous champagne, having tasted it, it makes it rather challenging to go back to anything sub-par.'
