Dominus, 1985

Tasted on September 05th, 2021, bottle opened at 6.15pm

Colour was medium garnet, showing good age in the bottle.

Very pronounced nose with dried dates, prunes, figs, delicious red fruits with cassis, cedarwood, also releasing the damp forest floor with unami profile.

High acidity, the palate is no less than any wonderful first growth Bordeaux! The liquorice, dried fruits, raisins and complexity made one want to savour the wine all night. Tannin was smooth and finish was long.

No decanting and it was enjoyed over the next 3 hours.

Nose and palate gradually stepped away from fruit characters and morphed into more tertiary flavours - leathery, truffle, musky farmyard, hint of coffee with menthol, the wine was slightly peppery, enriched by generous blackcurrant, sour cherries, cassis and silky dark chocolate long lingering in the mouth. It’s definitely a wine that I would enjoy over and over again.

Drink now or keep for another 5 years. JH98
