Grand vin de Chateau Latour 2004

Tasted on August 14th, 2021, bottle opened at 5.10pm.

Deep ruby colour, nose was cassis, fresh herbs, i.e. Rosemary, mixed with hint of violet, pencil shaving and earthiness.

On the palate, it was medium high acidity, tannic with red fruits. So, time to decanting..

2 hours later..

Releasing more earthy characteristics on the nose, the wine was quite musky with forest floor, spices with good minerality.

Palate was more complex, cigar leaves, walnut, cedarwood, tobacco, all integrated very well with elegant red fruits, cassis with a medium long finish of floral violet.

Another 2 hours later..

The wine was just waking up at this point, while tertiary notes like liquorice and chocolate became pronounced, it was also developing more weight on the palate. Compared to 2011 which packs with structure, femininity and power, 2004 is a lot more elegant and silky overall, its beauty might need more time to wake up.
