MARGO For Girls’ Night

Girls‘ Night Done Right!

Guess what we brought to enhance our culinary experience at MARGO?

We brought one bottle of red and one bottle of white, plus one champagne from the restaurant, civilised for a Monday girls’ night.

The Restaurant

It’s located at The Galleira on Queen’s Road Central, probably not the easiest place to find but we found it!

Warm and welcoming, the space is decorated with modern arts. The four of us sat at a round table under a chandelier, this set-up slightly reminded me of Mandarin Grill + Bar.

Wine List, Food and Pairings

Their wine list was quite extensive, offering bottles from reasonable to premium price. A few decent bottles caught my eyes, but since we already brought our own, it would be worth visiting again to try their wine.

Champagne and canapés

To start the night, we ordered a bottle of Champagne Larmandier-Bernier extra brut, it was dry with aromatic stone fruits, apple, zest and a bit of white flower, light to medium body, it was a wonderful apperitif, but also paired well with Fukuoka snow crab cocktail and octopus terrine.

White wine with seafood

With the white wine, we paired it with pan seared scallops with caviar, which was very well-received by everyone! Girlfriends also ordered Polmard beef tartare and said it was amazing!

The wine was crisp with clean minerality, delicious white fruits, peach, green apple, marzipan and light coat of cream in the mouth, no oak.

Red with wagyu

It’s not exactly a rule that cannot bend, but (red) meat is generally more complimentary with red wine, in flavours and texture, they bring out the best of each other. Their Ozaki rump steak was done to perfection, girlfriend B ordered Konigsberger Klopse, a German dish close to her heart, and she was impressed.

Red wine was a full body wine with plenty to stimulate your senses, palates changed from powerful black fruits to leather, tar, cigar leaves and truffle. When it was ready to drink, it achieved the almost-perfect marriage of fruits and terroir.

What did we drink?

White was Kistler Vine Hills 2017, JH91, and the red was Ducru Beaucaillou 2009, JH96, both wine require some good length of time decanting to enjoy over the next 4 hours.

Bon appetit!

Joey
